The Innovative Start-Up Award was founded in 2008 by three young CMC entrepreneurs with the hope of inspiring innovation and risk-taking among their fellow students. The first award offered a prize of $10,000 and was operated as a beta test for Professor Conger’s class.The success of this primary program drew the support of Mr. Henry Kravis ’67, who invested an additional $15,000, bringing the award to a sum of $25,000. Four friends from the United States spent their summer living in Guatemala on one dollar a day to try and understand the reality of poverty first hand. This fall 2012 their journey continues. They have four months, a 1978 school bus, and a radical plan to use their film to engage hundreds of thousands of students in the fight to end extreme poverty.

Sophomore Leadership Experience

Each fall, incoming sophomores have an opportunity to apply and expand their leadership knowledge during a four-day experiential learning trip, the Sophomore Leadership Experience, held at a camp in the mountains above CMC. The trip includes large and small group activities designed to give students increased self-awareness, facilitate group bonding and develop leadership skills.
